How we can relate to this....yet for different reasons :(

Another example of how the UK Government allows things to continue, because there a "so few" involved.....nobody seems to care. The story of the Chagossians has been mostly kept secret from the world even until now; but there are a few groups trying to get their story heard for these British citizens. It's also something I foresee happening to Ascension Island in future :(

I will always support the cause of the people of the Chagos Islands to return home, and be given back their citizenship. I know what its like to be ignored....coming from a small place.

"It's time for the UK government to allow the Chagossian people back to their islands. They got pretty close a few years back, but it was whitewashed. I think the main problem is that not enough people know about their harsh treatment. Sure, the decision to remove them (heavy handed and sinister though it was) was a product of the Cold War, and they were one of it's many 'by proxy' victims. These people want to go back and tend to their lands and harvest coconuts in peace. What the hell do the UK and US military think - that they'll mount a full on blitzkreig assault on the US airbase on Diego Garcia? For heaven's sake! Let these proud British people return to their British homeland. We wouldn't tolerate any of this if it was happening anywhere close to home. It's simply a case of 'what the eye doesn't see'."
